At twenty-seven, Lucas Ashley was convince that she was a failure - at any rate, as a woman - unattractive, on the shelf. Her only relationship, with David Lessington, a married man, was one she could have done without - and in fact it was in an attempt to get away from David that she decided to make a new life for herself in Canada. But her problems remained with her - made even worse when she managed to fall in love with Marc Stephenson. For once again Lucas's hopes of happiness faded as first Phyllida Manners and then David turned up to ruin everything. Would Lucas ever get herself sorted out?
