About This Book

When the boy friend of a young English girl learns she is pregnant he arranges for both of them to leave his native Ireland and make a new life in England. The story tells how the couple travel to England by way of a hitched lift on a Fishing Trawler. Ironically, after an adventurous journey they finish up making their home on a boat which became stuck on a river in the Midlands The couple raise a family, two boys and a girl, but the story centres on the eldest boy who has a love for animals. This becomes clear when he trains his young dog to do tricks and it is suggested that he and the dog joins a Circus. Unfortunately this doesn't happen but it is because of the love of animals that a Circus is visited. It is during the visit the young boy learns that an Elephant is due to be put to sleep and he feels he must try and do something to stop this.
