About This Book

Curiouser and curiouser. . .

Was it the one-legged witch, the masked nurse, the warlock, or the mummy? When Chris's bicycle disappears on Halloween, he suspects witchcraft. Especially after he learns that the warlock costume belonging to his new friend Muffin was stolen that same night. Chris's science-whiz brother insists there's a rational explanation for everything. And his dad's motto is "Get your questions right before you get your answers wrong." But sometimes there are just too many questions.

For instance: How come Muffin is so secretive? Does her coat have mysterious powers? What is Mr. Bullen, the junk dealer, so afraid of? How do the Druids, ancient English magicians, fit into the picture? And the biggest question of all: If Chris can't trust his friends, who can he trust? Although he's trying to be sensible, the facts just don't make sense. Everyone but Muffin says there's no such thing as magic. Maybe. Maybe not.
