Michael Sutton takes on a flight of fantasy with Jughen, a man born out of his time, who has a great knowledge of dragon lore.
The tale goes back to 50,000 years BC to show us the harsh realities of living on a still volcanic planet under threat from great ice sheets.
Jughen, with his knowledge from twentieth century England, tries to civilize the Stone Age people he meets introducing them to the sciences of metallurgy, botany and agriculture, and the virtues and values of Christianity. With all but the Drennen tribe he has some success, for they persist and in their brutish ways, though he takes one of their number to wife.
Inventive and persistent to the end, Jughen becomes ‘king' of the settlement he founds. He has introduced a civilized way of life to the Stone Age peoples and shown them the glories of ages to come.
