The disappearance of Major Hamilton Willis and his wife from New York's Beaumont Hotel strikes a personal chord with manager Pierre Chambrun. The major once saved his life. Now it looks as if Hamilton's eleven-year-old son may be next to disappear.

Events go from bad to worse with the discovery of the dead body of a Beaumont employee, the appearance of a gun-toting priest and the arrogant accusations of the intelligence officer assigned to the case.
