About This Book

One morning, high in the Ndoto mountains of northern Kenya, a Samburu herdboy was amazed to find a tiny baby elephant sleeping among his goats and sheep. The elephant was very weak and the herdboy knew he was unlikely to survive.

But, thanks to the quick action of the herdboy's tribesmen and an elephant rescue team, Ndotto the baby elephant did survive. Today he lives in an elephant sanctuary in Nairobi where he is lovingly cared for twenty-four hours a day by his keepers. This book is based on the true story of his dramatic rescue.

Aimed at the five-to-nine-years age group, Ndotto, An Elephant Rescue Story is the seventh of Gail Clarke's eight illustrated books for children. Since 2010, Gail has been presenting her books to children in schools in many parts of the world. She is always enthusiastically assisted in her readings by glove puppets of Patrick the African grey parrot, his great-grandpa Gilbert, Cosmos the Curious Whale and Chameleon. Some 35,000 children in Hong Kong, Phuket, Bangkok, Dubai, Sri Lanka, Kenya and England have now enjoyed learning about animal migration, writing and illustrating, and, of course, hearing Gail's stories.
