Mick Jones is the somewhat awkward valedictorian of his tiny high school class in Cass, a sleepy beach town that lives off the tourists who arrive each summer. He's surprisingly received a scholarship to a college several hours inland, but he barely understands what that opportunity represents because no one ever seems to leave Cass.As the summer begins after graduation, Mick goes back the job he's held for the past two summers, working in the rental office for Mr. Carter, who owns almost all of the cottages in Cass.
