When Meagan Mills Darcy moves to the Isle of Skye, Scotland, after marrying the handsome Duncan MacGrae (Scotty), she is looking for that fairy tale happily-ever-after ending. With the additions of a beautiful new son, Michael, and Moira, Scotty's spirited, widowed sister, living on their country estate, things seem to be ideal. Then unexpectedly, mayhem collides with their bliss.
First, come the comical but incompetent handy men, Angus and Argus; next, comes the unexpected visit from Duff, Scotty's menacing brother. Then comes Constance, Scotty's ex, to irritate. More relatives appear. The MacGrae's dogs mysteriously are poisoned. There is a second pregnancy but something goes very wrong. Afterwards, Scotty shares a dark secret from his past with Meg. When life seems to be tumbling around them, little Michael and Aunt Moira always manage to bring some humor and levity into the mix.
Just as their existence brightens, Scotty discovers the murder which takes them through a labyrinth that leads to yet more death. Through it all, Meg and Scotty's love and laughter passionately proclaim it will be a story book ending no matter what the gods throw at them.
