Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is the most unusual toy store ever. Edward Magorium, proprietor and marbles champion is 243 years old and has been inventing toys since the mid-1770's. Now it's time for him to leave and he wants Molly Mahoney to take over the store. But Molly doesn't think she can and the store throws a tantrum and begins to turn gray. With the help of nine-year-old Eric, a counting mutant (otherwise known as an accountant) named Henry, a block of wood and some faith in herself, can Mahoney save the Wonder Emporium? Or does the magic have to depart with Mr. Magorium?
