On a cold night in March in the tiny town of Deer Hollow, two trappers carry a young girl, half dead, to the local doctor's home. Her name is Montana Brennan and she is about to bring a world of revenge down upon those who viciously murdered her family.

Daniel Hawthorn is the richest man in Deer Hollow, which is also why he's still single. It's hard to find a worthy bride among all the gold diggers. Five minutes before noon on Lottery Day, a gorgeous woman wearing nothing more than a thin robe enters the lottery. Daniel takes a leap of faith and enters the lottery with seconds to spare. He knows he's gotten more than he bargained for when she takes him to the general store and immediately buys knives, hatchets, and guns. On one of the rifles she has a name engraved, that of Thomas Brennan.
