After leaving her hectic Wall Street career and surviving the breakup of her marriage, Elizabeth Halperin is eager to begin again in the solitude of the Berkshires, with her eleven-month-old daughter, Emily. The last thing she expects is to become a prime suspect in a brutal crime of passion.

Yet when someone fatally shoots Elizabeth's womanizing ex-husband, the infamous author Howard Hack, at a lavish Halloween party, suspicion falls on Elizabeth, who stands to inherit his vast fortune. As the police build their case, the plucky Elizabeth--with the help of her friends in Emily's play group--turns into an amateur sleuth to clear her name.
