Excerpt:

"I want to see your face." The lord seemed to flinch. "Please," she added as an afterthought.

He made an abrupt sound, as if he was about to say something, but thought better of it. Rosaria stood waiting.

It was he who now lowered his eyes to the floor as he reached behind his head. While he did so, Rosaria slowly put her hand in the pocket of her robe.

He unveiled himself faster than Rosaria had time to prepare.

She uttered a strangled sound somewhere between a gasp and a cry.
