Melons and Emeralds

When seven-year-old Devin looks in the mirror, he sees his father's nose, dark skin, and unusual green eyes. He knows he looks like his father. What he doesn't know is why his father left him and his mother six years ago. He has no idea that many women and children died in order to produce his green eyes, or that his eyes give him the ability to do things others cannot do, or that his new school, the Pearce Institute for Gifted Children, is not all that it seems to be.
