James Bell can't wait to tell his wife Fern about the surprise he's been planning: major renovations for a master bedroom on the ground floor of their house, so the stairs will be one less challenge Fern has to face with her multiple sclerosis. However, when James receives unexpected news form the bank, he's forced to reevaluate not just the renovation but his family's future in Deerford as well.

Meanwhile, Candace is worried Heath may be confiding in others and not her. What does this mean as they navigate their fragile new relationship?
