About This Book

Mattie's hats are not happy. They have had just about all they can take of their creator's eccentric designs. She's made them wear plastic palm trees, miniature elephants, and even a reproduction of the Eiffel Tower. Shoppers stop by the window of Mattie's hat shop, pointing and laughing, but no one ever comes in to buy.  So the hats stage a rebellion, letting Mattie know that they want things plain and simple. But when Mattie sadly complies, people stop smiling when they look in the window, and eventually they come in to ask about the interesting hats that used to be there.  Finally encouraged, Mattie decides to let the hats decorate themselves and soon everyone is happy. This quirky and charmingly illustrated story celebrates the individuality inherent in every child.
