About This Book

Martin Romero, the young Cajun traiteur (healer), visits Isle de Jean Charles, a remote Biloxi-Chitimacha Indian village in Louisiana that is eroding into the Gulf of Mexico. There he finds that his Great Uncle Joe has barricaded himself in his cabin rather than move to higher ground. When he befriends a beautiful island girl who is ill, his girl friend becomes angry. More trouble brews when he uses his powers on an injured person who does not want his help. Meanwhile, an oil rig explodes in the Gulf, and the Island and surrounding marshes are threatened even further. Martin and the Last Tribe is the third book in a series written for young adults and middle-grade readers.
