Bethany Graham was looking forward to her birthday until the worst happens. Her great aunt Hattie and great uncle Elmer need a place to stay for a month and what does her mother do but invite them to Rainbow Meadows. They are the least favorite of Beth's relatives and her birthday is ruined.

She's told by her own grandparents that being almost fourteen isn't grown up unless you can act grown up. Ashamed of her initial reaction Beth decides to make amends.

When Aunt Hattie and Uncle Elmer arrive she spends time with them each day uncovering surprising secrets. Aunt Hattie is deeply worried and Uncle Elmer seems to be in the clutches of an unscrupulous fortune teller and psychic Madame Dorika and her astral spirit Zila.

Before Beth and the other sleuths can do a thing the old couple is cheated out of ten thousand dollars and suddenly Beth, Mrs. Naidu and the group are hot on the trail of Madame Dorika.

Will they be able to trap her before she vanishes forever?
