A Whole New Meaning to Hitting the Wall

Governor Bradley Wall has often felt a target on his back, but never literally. That suddenly changes: after defying a new and ruthless drug cartel, the thugs put a price on his head and his life in the crosshairs. 
To complicate matters, as he prepares for his annual publicity jaunt in the Twin Cities Marathon, it's learned that a spectacle is in the works...to have the governor killed during the race itself. He needs protection. 
Enter tough guy Lee Bodkin, bounty hunter and weapons expert, a perfect balance of lethal force to counteract the new threat. He and partner Gladdis Montrose, a fearsome biathlete and precision sniper, have been known to let the bullets fly freely when required, and the governor and security team want them on the squad. 
One big problem: Governor Wall slows down for no one, and Bodkin has never before run a marathon. He's underestimated the rigors a full marathon entails, and as his body begins to self-destruct just trying to maintain pace on trial runs, the dilemma leaps to the forefront:
