A computer dating form is not perhaps the most romantic method of meeting one's future husband, but when a friend jokingly filled one in on Liza's behalf, Liza was too shattered by a broken romance to care very much. She didn't care, either, when she accepted Clive Matson's businesslike proposal. His terms, after all, were quite plain: he needed to be married to get the job her wanted; he could offer Liza the cottage in the country that she had always dreamed of; and the marriage would be in name only. Romance was to be firmly left out of it, just as Liza wanted - so so she told herself, until she found that after all she had fallen in love with her husband, who was now spending so much of his time with the glamorous Daphne Brettle.
