About This Book
If there is one immutable feature in the social fabric of the American South, it is the telling of stories; a sense of place, traditions, family relationships, desires, and hope. Southern literature has produced a unique blend of voices, an entire school of writing, rich and diverse, with its own peculiar imagery, grace, and eloquence. The images and characters of the South remain true to their upbringings, echoing the days of our fathers and mothers. Our guidelines for our authors required Southern location, character, and theme. The diversity in styles, eras, and settings create a marvelous collection of Afternoon Tales we're sure you'll enjoy. The Gulf Coast Writers Association has provided an arena for today's Southern writers for over a quarter of a century. With this, our third annual "Afternoon Tales" anthology, we are proud to bring back some of our favorite voices, and add new ones, creating a collection of delightful entertainment. - Philip L.
