She dreamed that a knight on a white horse would ride up to the old rectory and take her away to another life, a more exciting life than being her grandfather's unpaid servant and attending services which the senile old parson held in the disused church.

But instead of a knight on a white horse Ellen Forshaw helped a man who had lost his memory and came to the church one night seeking shelter. Ellen took him to the old stables behind the rectory unknown to her grandfather.
