Janet Brodie is not having a good day. With her stepfather in the hospital, she has been left in charge of Thornwood Lodge, and it seems she can't get a moment's peace. Her goofy neighbor, Pete McEnnery, has just proposed--again. Her thirteen-year-old sister, Bitsie, has dripped lilac nail polish all over the registration desk. And now, a visitor has arrived--unannounced, with no reservation--and he seems intent on staying the night.

Of course, the fact that Greg Faher is handsome and sophisticated has nothing to do with Janet's decision to break the rules and find him a room. But soon she is sorry she has done it; Greg is a hotel troubleshooter, sent to her by Denton Kellerman, her stepfather's dad, who doesn't approve of the way Thornwood Lodge is being run. Under the circumstances, Janet's attraction to Greg makes her feel positively traitorous. Can she be falling in love with the enemy?
