When Craig Kent is called away on business, his unenthusiastic daughter, Laurie, is compelled not only to be interested in the new house they are building, but to make a lot of nerve-racking decisions about it.

In the process, her feelings slowly change, partly because of dashing Michael Bannon, who calls himself "the best amateur bricklayer in Pennsylvania." But perhaps even more because of Tony Palma, an alert and imaginative Italian student, studying in the United States.

Laurie herself isn't sure of her choice, until a sick sheep precipitates the deciding vote!
