Lost on the Island is a fictional story about a third grade class that goes on an exciting adventure. Not only does it capture the attention of young readers, but it is also educational. This book was written by a teacher who sought to use a fictional story in order to get students connected with a love for literature. At the end of every chapter, a Literature Workshop is presented for student to discuss terms and make connections through journaling. Young readers will truly understand the tools utilized by authors and in turn have a greater understanding when reading or writing stories. Presented and taught in this book are seventy-five elements and terms of literature that children will become introduced to. Unlike most children's fiction books, readers will find choral recitations, poems, riddles, spiritual lessons, universal themes, and even some connections to curriculum. There is also a journal prompt focusing on personal reflection after the literature discussion questions. This book can be read as a class, with a parent, or even solo.
