Erin Elizabeth Corbett is thrilled with her first teaching assignment. The Lost Creek Mission, Lost Creek, Missouri, is a poor and remote community of honest and hard-working citizens who desperately need her. Convinced God is leading her, Erin arrives in an untamed land.

From the start she and the young minister Douglas Teterbaugh forge a quick and easy friendship. Yet as the two "city folk" among a wary people, problems soon arise. Can Erin convince the Lost Creek parents that she is sincere? Have the trails of a rugged existence hardened many against accepting god?
