Lacey and Megan have always seen best friends, even though Megan's idea of friendship has often meant getting into trouble—and counting on Lacey to bail her out. But in their junior year of high school, Megan begins pulling more and more outrageous stunts to get attention from her busy, distant father. Lacey's finding it hard just to keep up with her.

When Megan's behavior begins to wreck her reputation in their small town, Lacey's boyfriend, Kit, urges her to break free from Megan. Lacey resists his advice, and Kit says he's not interested in someone who can't live her own life. Lacey knows Kit is right,
