Deputy U. S. Marshal Custis Long can think of lots of fun ways to spend his birthday.  But, tracking down a stolen stagecoach stash in a remote mining community complete with greedy lowlifes and an overwhelmed acting marshal isn't one of them—especially since the resulting "treasure hunt" is making the undertaker the richest man in town.
 
Now the thief's pretty widow is suspected of hiding the loot, and she wants Longarm to protect her. And with a posse of bad-news hombres on his trail, Longarm will have to think fast and draw faster if he's going to bury one cunning killer for keeps…
