Longarm is assigned to recover a cache of Army rifles stolen out of Texas and smuggled across the border into Mexico. A wild bandit named Mendoza and a faction of insurgents known as Los Ninos de Libertad—The Children of Liberty—are the most likely suspects—but which one is the guilty party?
 
Before he can even begin to investigate, the U.S. Deputy Marshal finds himself caught in a crossfire between an uncooperative Texas Ranger, a hotheaded ranch hand, and a sultry schoolmarm hiding more than her virtue.
