Escorting a wanted man from El Paso to Denver is a peach of an assignment for Longarm, until—right before his eyes—an assassin empties a six-gun into his prisoner.
 
Chasing the shooter off the train, Longarm finds himself caught in a torrential downpour. But his rain of bullets hits its mark. He kills the gunman…only to run into his accomplices in the storm. Lucky for Longarm, they think he is the gunman.
