The first in a series of mysteries set in New Orleans involving Jeffrey Chaussier, an actor and reluctant sleuth, who is called home to investigate mysteries involving his family. To do that, he must explore his past and decide on a future. He is aided in this by the colorful New Orleans friends of his youth. He finds a companion in Bryna, a beautiful blonde stage manager with a tangled past. His tasks are to solve the mysteries, secure the safety of his family, and win Bryna. Powerful and unseen forces are arrayed against him as he delves into the business, political, and social worlds of his native city.
