In this screenplay, Jenny Dayley and Dean Knight are so fed up with their existence that they decide to commit suicide together. Jenny succeeds in her attempt while Dean's mother stops him before he dies. Dean has to live with himself after the incident, and as so often happens when a person faces a traumatic experience, a mental illness that has lain in wait ready to strike, attacks. Dean hears voices in his head, one called legion and later, others, including his mother's and Jenny's.After Jenny dies, her brother Jethro begins bullying Dean until Dean breaks and almost beats him to death. The authorities send Dean to a mental hospital where he will undergo electro convulsive therapy to help him with his anger, his suicidal ideations, and his mental illness. Early in his stay, he learns two shocking bits of news. One, his mother has died in a car wreck. Two, one of the psychiatrists at the hospital is his father whom he tought died a long time ago. Dean will live with his father and his grandmother. Evelyn, his grandmother, is the one person who brings joy in Dean's life. After he nearly kills Jethro, Dean moves to another school where the bullying starts again. A jock by the name of Wyatt likes a girl Katie who seems to fancy Dean. Katie spends most of her time in drama and generally hates sports. Wyatt notices that Katie is paying more attention to Dean than she is to him. This realization leads to another round of bullying. Dean tries his hand at drama because he wants to impress Katie. One of the bullies does too, mainly because he also wants to impress Katie and to keep an eye on Dean. A talented drama geek named Seth connects with Dean; however, Seth likes Dean in a different way, and after drama practice kisses Dean. Things go from bad to worse.
