Lifeline

Joe Storn, disgraced All Earth Space Fleet captain is plunged into the job of providing a lifeline for humanity. A stray asteroid has swung too close. Before it's destroyed, its magnetic attraction tugs Earth's axis a mere three degrees off kilter--just enough to bring on an Ice Age. Like it or not, newly minted "Admiral" Storn is tasked with guiding a fleet of seven vast freeze-ships halfway across the Galaxy to a system one thousand years distant. Every ship in his fleet is filled with frozen politicians, wealthy citizens, and way too many academics. When they finally land, it's on the wrong planet. All but a few lack the mental, emotional, and physical wherewithal to make good settlers on an alien planet. But Joe is determined to finish what he was sent to do--make a new home world for all Earth's lifeforms.
