About This Book

Milarepa was a singer of spiritual poems who roamed the northern slopes of the Himalayas 900 years ago. His story articulates his struggles to achieve spiritual enlightenment. He is perhaps the world's greatest renunciate and faster, having walled himself within frigid caves, with scant food, for years at a time. Milarepa is considered a living Buddha by Tibetans and his story is dramatic and believable. This telling is an adaptation of the translation of Milarepa's biography from the Tibetan. The narrative is easy going and unhurried, much like a talking meditation, and includes historic references to earlier Tibetan culture, Mahayana Buddhism, Marpa the Translator, and other earlier saints of Kagyu lineage.
