About This Book

Knowing he’s about to die, Hank Dawson summons his grandson, Michael Dawson, to the nursing home for one last visit. Hank, better known as “Papa,” raised Michael but feels guilty because he gambled away the entire inheritance Michael’s parents left him when he was just a boy. Even though Michael resents the old man, he shows up anyway. Hank apologizes for all his failures and hands his grandson the key to a drawer in his desk at home. He wants Michael to have the journal in that drawer and calls it his “legacy.” After the old man dies, Michael drives to his grandfather’s house and retrieves the small book. The journal falls open to a well-visited page, and Michael is stunned. What Papa has written on the yellowed paper is no legacy but rather a huge embarrassment. How can Michael possibly live with what he’s just read?
