Having been devastated by a faithless fiancee, Alisa Mallory welcomed the chance for a fresh start in her recently inherited Scottish estate. Doubt set in when she met Fergus MacNair, the former lord of the manor.

She was dismayed to learn that a tragedy had forced Fergus to sell his ancient family home to her uncle. Moreover, it bothered Alisa that Fergus resented her, a stranger, taking over Truan Lodge.
