Rosalie Willard considered her stenographer's job only a steppingstone to the executive position she had come to the city to find. Or live in a small town of Lakeville was behind her . . . or so she thought. Then her millionaire boss, Philister Cummings, who had also been born and raised to Lakeville, decided to send Rosalie on a secret mission to their hometown. Philister wanted to endow Lakeville with a memorial to the Cummings name, and Rosalie was to gather information on what the town most urgently needed. Rosalie was eager for the assignment, or it would give her the opportunity to see Larry King again-dear, sweet Larry-to whom she had been engaged six years ago.
