Laura Reynolds learned early in her career that to be accepted seriously as a doctor--and especially a surgeon--a woman had to work twice as hard as a man. And if she was beautiful, like Laura, three times as hard! She had struggled all through medical school, internship, and residency to get where she was now: on the surgical staff of one of the best children's hospitals in the country. How could Jerry think of asking her to give it all up? She had trained with Dr. Jerry Cunningham, worked with him, competed with him, and, somewhere along the line, had fallen in love with him.
