About This Book

Based on a true story, Last Sunrise is the story of Randy "Buck" Blaylock, a cowboy, rodeo champion, movie stuntman ... and contract assassin for the CIA. No one, not even his wife of more than 30 years, knows Buck's dark past in Vietnam. Today, he and his wife, Linda, live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near the small town of Bridgeport. After the death of their teenage son, Buck was nearly destroyed by grief and alcohol. With Linda's love and support he has recovered and they are building a small ranch together. One day in Bridgeport, a local bully picks a fight with Buck. That night Buck shoots the man in what he calls a "mercy killing." Buck is brought to trial for murder and his past as a Marine Recon sniper and assassin is revealed. He is convicted and sent to Folsom Prison. Unbeknown to him, Linda is suffering from ALS, an incurable and fatal disease. When he learns that she is dying he breaks out of prison in order to grant her last wish, to see her last sunrise from the High Sierras. In a daring escape and race into the mountains they are pursued by a posse that is made up of the father of the man Buck shot bent on revenge, a detachment of U.S. Marines, and the man really responsible for the killing, who is intent on silencing Buck before the truth is uncovered.
