Robby's parents don't mean to, but they continually compare Robby, who's a high soccer star, to his perfect brother, now playing football, far better than soccer, in college. Robby's best friend and co-captain of the soccer team, Jim has been grounded and suspended from the team for drinking, and his position as goalie has to be filled by freshmen whose playing is questionable. And Robby needs his team to go to the State championships to help him get a soccer scholarship to college. In addition, he has an eccentric, unpredictable girl friend whom the rest of his team dislikes, and a difficult, if not actually sadistic, coach. Robby finds some help with his problems from a sympathetic English teacher, but he needs to work extra hard to deal with the realistic trials of contemporary high school social and athletic life.
