Lily and Tom Langdon's lives are as closely entwined as two grapevines grafted onto a single stem. Together they happily run the Pennyroyal Vineyard and adjacent dinner-theater -- joint labors of love--and raise their teenage children--offspring from their first marriages.

But their harmony is disrupted when Lily's ex-husband, urbane Mark Davenport, arrives to star in their new musical production. Criticizing the choices Lily has made, calling loyalties into question, Mark foments tension and misunderstanding, casting shadows on Tom and Lily's golden days.
