Evacuated to Wales at the start of World War II, Rose Forster was doubly bereft when her parents were killed in an air raid and her sister Gracie married a GI and went to live in California. Now almost eighteen, Gracie has finally sent for her. With mixed feelings about leaving her surrogate family, Rose arrives in L.A. with stars in her eyes. Out of her depth in a world she never knew existed, Rose finds refuge in communications from home. But when she returns to Wales, the California girl doesn't know where she belongs anymore...
