When former investigative reporter Kate Banning moves from New England to Nashville, she expects a slow-moving world of cowboys, grits, and guitars--not to mention a fresh start for herself and her teenage daughter, Kelly. But Kate's nose for news has always meant a nose for trouble, too, and quicker'n you can say Grand Ole Opry, she finds herself dragged straight onto the trail of a possible murder.

The music has stopped for up-and-coming country sensation Brandi Burns after a fatal car crash brings her promising future to an end. But something about the pretty young singer's death strikes a false note--especially to the well-attuned ears of her grieving sister, Bobbie, who is convinced the tragedy was no accident. Drawn in by Bobbie's determination, Kate is soon juggling more than single motherhood and long-distance romance, as she scours for clues everywhere, from Tennessee's wrecker yards to its corrupt, insular, Music Row network.
