About This Book

“I’m real good at pretending, Mom. I learned real early,” he whispered. “I’m here and I do what they want, but I’m empty inside. They won’t leave me alone. Every time I find a path, they take it away.” It was only when he was alone that he could stop pretending. It was only when he was alone that he allowed his real self to show through. His eyes, when they went toward the window, had no life in them. When Jamie was seven, his mother died, but his father didn’t want him. He was shoved from foster home to foster home, suffering mental, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. He was rescued and sent to a special school, but even there he wasn’t safe. Through it all, Jamie tried desperately to hold on to God. Sometimes it was difficult, but God never let him go. God’s love never disappeared.
