Eve Travis, seeking to cure Jeff Kilburn of what she thinks is a broken heart, persuades him to marry her. What Eve does not know is that her fortune has been lost and that Jeff, to whom she has been as a beloved young sister, sees in marriage the opportunity to keep her safe from poverty. When Even learns that her money is gone and when in addition she hears that the girl who she believes broke Jeff's heart is free to marry again, she refuses to acknowledge the marriage and goes to Washington to live with her Senator uncle in a world of politics and diplomacy.
