Reddes Atter, a newly hired stock investigator, gets his hands on a file left over by his recently missing predecessor. Curiosity quickly turns into obsession and Reddes finds himself involved in something deeper than fraud or insider trading.

His investigations lead him to HEC, a shadowy multi-national corporation that appears to have investments around every corner. Even HECs employees begin to take interest in Reddes and use devilish tactics to get him off the trail. With help from friends both above and below, Reddes unravels the mystery behind HEC. He might even land a promotion with a higher purpose.
