Brit Hudson, a top investigative reporter, has a reputation for getting to the truth. During an episode of insomnia one late evening, Brit receives what she believes to be a misdirected email. Not knowing a response would be a mistake, Brit is pulled into the middle of a political scandal and, possibly, a horrible crime. She realizes danger when she is brutally attacked one dusky evening after an interview involving a death row case. Dorian Ward, a former cop--and Brit's ex-fiance--hurries to her side at the hospital, dredging up old feelings and new suspects. With Dorian's help, Brit tries to make sense of it all. Before the week's end, Brit will put the pieces together--and move to the top of a ruthless killer's list of targets.
