Until that peace-shattering night, Rachael's life had been perfect. Nothing in the child's world could have prepared her for the pounding on the door, or the nightmarish events that would follow…The year is 1938; the place, Nazi-occupied Vienna. Seven year-old Rachael and her family are enjoying a traditional Sabbath dinner, when they hear a pounding on the front door and a man's angry voice demanding to see her father. A terrified Rachael and her younger brother are told to hide in a kitchen cupboard. When they come out, their father is gone. Fearing for their lives and forced to part with nearly all their possessions, Rachael, her mother and brother leave home the next day to begin a desperate search for safety. Relying upon only their fair Aryan looks for protection, they take to the perilous, Nazi-filled streets, posing as Germans. To cope with her suddenly hostile and threatening reality, Rachael decides to perfect her masquerade and turn it into a game of wits. It will be a dangerous and heartbreaking game, but a game she is determined to win...
