If Thine Eye Be Evil

Girls are dying in Arkansas. So far three are dead...two left naked by the roadside, and a third, with a screwdriver pushed down her throat, by the banks of the Mississippi. The police are inept and the mayor, desperate, challenges members of the local press to catch the killer before another girl is found with her throat cut. None of them - not the mayor, not his police force, and certainly not the young reporters on the hunt for a career-launching story - realize that the killer has turned a deadly eye toward the hunters themselves. Before it's over two more will die, and the killer will vanish. Five years later, only one person is still tracking a killer who for half a decade has lain dormant. But the desire is too great, and the killer re-emerges, starting again with a young woman in another small town, this one in upstate New York. The reporter - alone in her obsession that the case remains unsolved - goes north to continue a hunt that will only end in more bloodshed.
