Sam and Stephanie's search for a missing elderly neighbor draws them into his house and into a summer of dangerous adventure. The house seems to be empty, but, if so, why should a table setting appear out of nowhere and what about the strange noises that mystify—and—scare them? What has happened to Mr. Snider? And what of the other unusual happenings in the normally tranquil small town? Set in 2004 in southern Wisconsin, this is a tale of suspense and the deepening friendship of two twelve-year-olds. It is the first in a series of Sam & Stephanie Mysteries for middle school readers.
