If I Didn't Care

Whoever said karma is a bitch had it right. I just wish I knew what I did to upset the universe. After I'm fired from my dream job, I move back to the small town I thought I'd escaped for good. Now I'm living with my demoralized dad and spoiled-brat sister, and working at the family store. Surely that's enough punishment for one woman. But then the jerk who fired me rolls into town in his fancy sports car. Even better, my new favourite enemy moves in next door to help his friend's mom. Ross claims he's not sticking around and will leave MacLeod's Cove once he finds another corporate ladder to climb. He also claims he's not interested in a long-term relationship. And then he goes and asks for help when it becomes clear the friend's mom is living more and more in the past. How can I refuse?  He can try all he wants to prove his heart isn't made of ice and he's rethinking his life plan. None of it matters because I can't risk falling in love again. And besides, I'm definitely not sticking around.
